I n January 2026, I visited the Humane Animal Society (HAS) sanctuary in Coimbatore. It was heartening to see how much more beautiful and welcoming the sanctuary has become since my last visit in 2023. The recent improvements, from the entrance to the expansive grounds, showcase the dedication of everyone involved. The property, spread across over an acre, is enveloped in lush greenery. The staff has thoughtfully introduced a wide variety of plants throughout the campus, enhancing its natural charm and creating a calm, comforting environment for both animals and visitors.
The sanctuary now provides a safe and loving home to over 100 dogs, 20 cats, two cows, and one horse. It is truly inspiring to witness the dedication and care that goes into supporting so many lives.
I was especially pleased to see that the on-site hospital is now fully functional. Equipped with an operating theatre, recovery rooms, well-maintained kennels, and the necessary medical equipment and supplies, the facility reflects a high standard of care. The hospital’s open, airy layout provides ample natural light and ventilation, creating a soothing, conducive environment for animals undergoing treatment and recovery. Adding to its warmth and charm, the hospital walls are adorned with cheerful, colorful, and fun graffiti, bringing a sense of brightness and positivity to the space. My sincere appreciation goes to the sanctuary staff, whose dedication and hard work are evident in the excellent maintenance and upkeep of both the sanctuary and the hospital. Their compassion and commitment make a meaningful difference every single day.
During this trip, my mother and I also had the opportunity to work closely with the HAS team to support the community dogs near my parents’ home. With their assistance, one mother dog was rescued and underwent the Animal Birth Control (ABC) procedure, while her two puppies were vaccinated. In addition, the team provided weekly on-site treatment for a male dog suffering from Transmissible Venereal Tumor (TVT), a contagious form of cancer. Their prompt and compassionate intervention highlights the positive difference our collective efforts are making in the community.
As a CFA Board Member, it is deeply gratifying to witness how thoughtfully and responsibly the funds provided to HAS Coimbatore are being utilized. Clarifying how continued support will sustain this progress can reassure supporters about the sanctuary's long-term stability and impact. Seeing the tangible impact of our support—in the quality of care, improved infrastructure, and outreach to community animals—reinforces our commitment to this partnership. I am truly proud to have HAS Coimbatore as one of our beneficiaries.
