Anti-Rabies
Vaccination (ARV) programme goes hand-in-hand with the Animal Birth
Control (ABC) programme in making India Rabies-free. The data of
prevalence of rabies among owned dogs in relation to the methods and
procedures for stray dog control has been analyzed through many
studies. These studies show that contrary to popular belief,
destruction of animals as a means of controlling deadly Rabies is quite
unsuccessful.
HAS
aims at rescuing abandoned and injured animals from the roads and
streets of Coimbatore. For this purpose HAS owns a minidor, which carry
animals. The injured animals would be given necessary medical treatment
by a qualified veterinarian.
There
are millions of stray and homeless animals in India today. HAS does
what is practically possible to control these numbers in a humane way
for e.g. by adopting procedures such as Animal Birth Control. But due
to financial and infrastructural limitations, it is practically not
possible for HAS to individually provide shelter for all these animals.
If each one of us were to adopt one stray/homeless animal, the number
of those without shelter would become negligible.
